The Prospective Marriage Visa is valid for a period of 9 months to enable a fiancé of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand resident to enter Australia to marry his/her fiancé.
The marriage must occur within the specified time frame and the overseas party must then apply for a Partner Visa (subclasses 820/801) to remain in Australia after the marriage.
The applicant must demonstrate that he/she knows and has physically met his/her fiancé and that the parties are genuinely engaged and intend to live in a genuine married relationship after the marriage.
The applicant must apply for this visa outside of Australia and meet health and character requirements.
