The Skilled Nominated Visa enables an individual with specific skills and qualifications to migrate to Australia on a permanent basis after being nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency.
This visa is for applicants who may not have met the pass mark for a Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189). The applicant must also obtain a point score of at least 60 through SkillSelect to be eligible for this visa.
A state or territory government agency may nominate a prospective applicant because of a shortage of skills in a particular occupation in that state or territory or because the applicant has demonstrate specialised skills for a particular region of that state or territory.
The applicant must be nominated for an occupation from a specified list, the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL).
The applicant must also meet other requirements including age (under 50 years), English language skills, qualifications, work experience, health and character.
A subclass 189 visa entitles the holder to all permanent resident benefits including healthcare, social security benefits and possible eligibility for citizenship.
